Awards aim to be the Asian MOBOs

THE UK Asian music industry has launched its own version of the MOBO awards. For the first time the ceremony will move out of small nightclub venues to London’s refurbished Royal Festival Hall which has seating for over 2,000.

The new-look awards were launched in December 2007 at a special show in Leicester Square in the heart of the capital’s entertainments quarter hosted by Bollywood star Kalvinder Girth.

The enthusiastic audience heard performances from singer-songwrighter Sonny Rele, Swami, Rishi Rishi, Punjabi Hit Squad among others. The 2008 award ceremony will take on March 6 2008 at the Royal Festival Hall, London.

Jon Hale CEO of the Nashi Media Group, who was a board Director of the Mean Fiddler Music Group plc, brings a wealth of music event experience as the Director of Business Development for the awards. On the partnership with the UK Asian Music Awards, Jon Hale said: “This is a very important partnership for Nashi. We hope to strengthen this already established, high profile event in the Asian community’s calendar by making the awards even bigger and better than before. We also hope that with this partnership we can help Asian music become one of the biggest and recognisable genre’s in mainstream music.”

The award catagories range from best album, best act and best newcomer to best club DJ and best website.
